I’ve been a bit tired the last couple of days and so when that happens, I know that my body is telling me that it’s time to take a little break. With MS, there is no rhyme or reason of when you feel the effects of your disease. It may be Regular symptoms flaring up or it may be the beginning of something more but I’m sure you know those days, the ones that just seem to take a little more effort to get things done, the last few have been that for me. I’m happy to say though that with a little rest and some tests, I’m feeling mucho better!
I love being at home, but I’m not one to like to sit around all day so when I can, I like to have the kids come to visit, go for a swim, go golfing or just walk along the beach with the dog & of course get in the kitchen to whip something up, but I will be honest, some days all I can get done is a load of laundry and have a shower. It is what it is, I’m used to it by now. You just have to ride it out and hope that what’s going on isn’t the starting of a relapse – you just hope for the best. I have a lot of faith that I have only been given what I can handle, it’s nothing more than that. I have been given this gift of having the time to do what I need to do for my health and that includes getting my head on straight so I choose to look at the glass as 1/2 full instead of 1/2 empty.
As I mentioned in a post last week, I have been looking at some of my habits and trying to figure out why I do some of the things I do and if they are something I want to change, I’m figuring out how to make that happen. This was a tragedy for me, but my iPad has been acting up for a couple of weeks. It hasn’t been charging correctly, so I changed cords and found that it would charge if I wiggled the cord around and taped it into place at a really awkward angle…..which is probably not the best thing to do for the cords. I am impatient and didn’t want to wait for Apple to fix it, isn’t that sad? Anyway, I finally found someone who could change the charging port within a day or two so hopefully it will be back to normal when it comes home to momma. But I will admit, I missed it and because I missed it so much, it got me thinking how much I use it every single day. I use it for social media, emails, FaceTime, Games, Pinterest, etc. Probably not much different than anyone else but I kind of felt lost without it and that’s when I knew there must be a problem. Sure, I can use my phone or heaven forbid, my laptop but I have a special bond with my iPad and it has been missed. Anyway, I found myself needing to use my phone this week because I didn’t have my old friend here with me (she is dead and won’t charge) but what I noticed was that I was looking at my phone out of boredom and there was always that red little notification number showing me that there was something new; you’ve got 10 new emails, you’ve been tagged on Face Book, someone wants to share a Pin with you on
Pinterest, someone liked your post on Instagram, the president is tweeting again (just kidding, I don’t really follow whats going on there….much), so and so sent you a Snap Chat, someone commented on your WordPress, you have a new Ancestry hint – so of course, I would have to check it out – all of them, and then I would get sucked in and before I knew it, I had wasted an hour to get rid of the red numbers just to have them pop back up as soon as I went to the kitchen for a glass of water! It’s a never ending cycle. What I really needed to do this week was rest, therefore I decided to try my own little experiment and turn off all notifications on my phone and low and behold – I didn’t feel the need to continuously check it since there were no little red numbers there to suck me into their dirty little world. I likely saved myself 3 hours a day by not checking my phone! Just a little trick on myself was all I needed to put down the phone and chill with a book (which is another bonus of not having my iPad because my books are stored on my iPad) or hang with my old friends Netflix & Crave or do laundry or take the dog for a walk, or cook something amazing! So, if you are finding yourself being sucked in by those notification’s, just turn ’em off! Your family, friends, dog and brain will thank you for it!
I think I owe you all a yummy recipe since I’ve had a couple of posts with nothing related to cooking so watch out, here it comes! The last time I had my sweet V over (she’s 3 and a go getter), we decided to do some baking. Is it still considered baking if you don’t use the oven? Anyway, these are perfect sweet treats for those late night snackers like me (or should I say, like the old me, see two posts back)! They were easy to do with a 3 year old and needed no baking! Easy Peasy! I didn’t even know I was looking for The Lean Green Bean until I found her site, but now I realize that everyone needs a Lean Green Bean in their life. Lindsey (who I am assuming is the Green Bean) is a Registered Dietician from Columbus Ohio who uses her blog for sharing simple, healthy recipes, nutrition tips, workouts and a little sprinkle of life! She has a Best of the Bean page where she shares links to some of her best posts and recipes from the past 4 years. I’m not giving away all of her secrets, you will have to check out her blog if you want to find out about Squish! https://www.theleangreenbean.com/
I got this yummy recipe from her blog, but I made some changes to fit what I had in the cupboard and what I like. This is my revision, mine taste great, but hers are definitely prettier! Here is the link to her pretty ones! https://www.theleangreenbean.com/freezer-chocolate-peanut-butter-cups/
