What sense of direction & who needs an energy ball?

Where did I get this terrible sense of direction?  I have no idea when it all started but it is bad…….I mean really bad!  I need one of those dogs that find people in avalanches orSaintBernardPurebredDogGeorge7MonthsPuppy2 something.  He could go with me everywhere, no, he should go with me everywhere because I can’t find my way around to save my life.

Do you know anyone who gets lost coming out of their hotel room? I do, this girl does!  Occasionally I even get lost in my own town so you do not want me to lead the way, EVER.  Yet, still people follow me, why do you think that is?  I think it is because I am confident and act like I know where I’m going.  So, it bamboozles me to think that my family still a) ask me for directions and b) follow them when I give them those directions.  I think I am good at giving directions actually, especially if those directions are simple like; turn left on Johnson street, take the first right on Smith, etc.  But left on my own, I can’t find my way out of a paper bag,  even if there is a brightly lit exit sign trying to lead me to the light!

I can’t even count how many times I have walked out of a hotel room and gone to the left when the elevator never moved from its original position which is to the right or even worse, DIRECTLY in front of me.

We like to hunt……so before our hunt a couple of years ago, we downloaded an app that tracks your route every day.  Every day is a different color, you can put markers down such pexels-photo-40134as moose tracks, hunting cabin, beaver dam, you get my drift?  The purpose is to make it easier to know where you have been, where you saw signs, where you want to go back to, you just need to follow your own tracks.   Sounds like the perfect solution for a directionally challenged person like me.  Oh no, no, no….not so.  One day during our last hunting trip, my husband decided that after 4 days, I should be the one to navigate to our next predetermined location, after all, we had our Hunting Buddy to guide the way.  Now, I know that he is trying to help me out by making me more self-reliant in the bush but he greatly under estimated the level of dysfunction to my directional senses.  I started off ok, but after 5 minutes I am asking him whether I look at the phone from this way or this way, are we going north or south, this doesn’t look familiar, and on and on it went.  My husband had to be pulling his hair out.  Multiple times he asked for the phone so he could re-center it and start me off in the right direction again, only to have me turned around again in relatively short time.  After a long day of hunting he said you are on your own.  “You are going to lead us back to our campsite, I know you can do it.  We’ve been past our driveway at least 50 times, you pexels-photo-87307can do this!”  So, with a new-found confidence and my trusty little hunt buddy I was bound and determined to lead us back to camp and I was doing great up until I wasn’t. It was almost dusk (at least that’s one of my excuses) and as we rounded a corner, I pointed to a camp site and said, “oh look, someone new pulled in to this site”.  My husband slowly looked at me as I happily drove by and said, “are you freakin’ kidding me?  That’s our campsite!”.  So, I quickly turned us around and told him I was just kidding (but he and I both knew that I wasn’t kidding at all). What can I say?

Fast forward to heading back home from this very hunting trip – we rushed to make the last ferry for the night to take us back to our peaceful little island.  We were the last 2 vehicles to make it on the boat and we get out of our trucks and I started to lead the way to the elevator – all of a sudden I hear my brother in law say, “you do know who we are relying on to get us to the elevator don’t you?”  But because I exude confidence, they continued to follow me.

Another time, my daughter and I made a road trip to the mainland to go to Ikea.  I had my google map going so I got us there in no time. However, once inside the building it’s a whole other story.  We finally finish our shopping and are going to head to a restaurant for a bite of lunch before heading back to the ferry, so off we go.  Now in my defense, there was construction happening……..but you can guess what happened.  We went around thelandscape-mountains-nature-lake same block 5 times as I could see the restaurant but couldn’t find the actual entrance.  Now my daughter isn’t very kind when she is hungry (or tired for that matter) and she was just about ready to get out and walk, in fact she may have yelled that to me more than once but I persevered and finally found the way into the restaurant.  It would have been much faster for us to just walk across the Ikea parking lot, but we finally got the burger we were craving!

Good thing I can find my way around the kitchen though!  Check out these energy balls I whipped up – I will need to be sure to make a batch or two before our next hunting trip or long shopping trip, especially if I am navigating! We may have to conserve our energy, you know, in case we get lost!
